Day 215 of Wonder

365 Days of Wonder

I've just discovered this amazing flower is called Tansy Tanacetum vulgare (and for reasons not fully understood the Good riddance herb), a plant known since ancient Greece as a medicinal plant. Folk story or not, this wonder plant can repel insects while giving off a rather aromatic scent similar to camphor or rosemary. Apparently, it has even been used to embalm (or at least the leaves were) American colonists. I just find the spiralling buds of yellow enchanting and its history interesting. I don't plan on stuffing it into my shoes to prevent illness just yet, but am fascinated by how useful this plant has been to so many in the past (and present?).

Warning: too much of a good thing can be dangerous. This is a toxic plant to many. Avoid backyard medicinal experimentation.
